What celebs have you met? Tell your story here. No matter what age we all have stories of times we met celebs. Sometimes a celebrity is more gracious than we thought they would be and sometimes they're just mean bitches! Here is a place where you get to tell it all! Don't be afraid to use the name if it's something that really happened then it's not libel. But, by all means, use your own judgement.
First I'll start with my story. I was in Century City one day and I met Vanessa Williams. Not the one from Desperate Housewives, but the one that use to star on The Young and The Restless. As she walked by me, we both said hello and somehow we started talking. We talk about how we had the same shoe size, and wore the same size clothes. She told me she just came from TYATR set, I asked who was filming that day, she explained the inner workings of filming on the set (how they don't all film on the same day) and I left feeling that for at least the 20 minutes of our conversation, we were friends. That's a celeb with class.
Well, I have to have a bitch story to go with that one, right? Here it is. June Lockhart. I met her at a comic-con. Now, I realize the comic-con isn't like a one-on-one meeting, but this is interesting anyway. I've been a fan of June's since I was a little girl. I watched her on "Lassie", Lost In Space, and I even watched her and her family on the Alistair Sim's version of the christmas classic "A Christmas Carol". I couldn't wait to take my kids upstairs to meet one of my idols. I raised my kids as a single mom and I had little extra cash at the time. I brought a book from home to get her autograph. I stood in line with a few people and it was almost my turn. I saw her signing pieces of paper and programs so, I was anxious to have her sign my book.
When it was my turn I introduced my kids to her (they already knew who she was because I talked about her alot). I handed her my book and asked her if she could please sign. She asked me if I knew who she was. Oh, by the way, she asked me this after I told her I had been a fan since I was 5 years old and I saw her in Lassie, A Christmas Carol, and Lost in Space. After her rhetorical question (if I knew who she was), she told me her father also played the judge in A Miracle on 34th Street. I told her I knew that too. I reminded her that I was a fan and followed her career (as stated earlier).
Realizing that there was no use trying to get that through to her, I handed her my book (again) and asked her if she could sign it. She looked at the book and said, "Dear, let me tell you how this works". Then (paraphrased) she said you buy my picture and I sign it. I asked her how much is the picture. She said $20.00. Well I had used my last to get into the building so I guess I wasn't getting one.
I know what some of you are thinking. That's how it works right? Well, as I stood there with my two kids (ages 7 and 9 at the time) checking my purse for possibly a lost $10.00 bill at the bottom of it, a guy around age 18 or 19 walked up beside me and asked her for an autograph and apologized because he didn't have any money to buy a picture. He asked her to sign a piece (yep, you guessed it) of paper. And she not only signed it, but with me standing right there she said, "you look like a nice guy, of course I'll sign your paper". Well, my son (who is quite outspoken) said, "mom, this is your idol?".
This is a story we all tell to this day, when we talk about bitchy celebs. My son warns people to "keep your movie star idols on the screen". I've learned that too.
I'd love to hear your stories. I know we all have them. Have you met a singer? actor? politician? let us know how it went.

Fun and Fabulous!
I turned 43 exactly a month ago today. I wanted to start a blog so I researched how to make one and here it is. I'll be writing about what makes us fabulous at forty. Some of what I say will make you laugh but hopefully some will help you realize (if you don't already), that we are living out the best times of our lives.
We're living during a time when there are many medical breakthroughs. In 1983, my mother died of cancer. I, on the other hand, am living at a time when we can fight back cancer if detected soon enough. Another good enlightment that we are benefitting from is the health craze of the 1970's. To this day I still eat healthy. I remember reading about all the homeopathic remedies and healthy foods and trying them out for the first time during my 20s. I'd take my paycheck and head right for the local health food store and buy my overpriced healthy foods. My favorite drink was coconut milk and perrier water, yum! Now, we have health food supermarkets!
And whoever thought plastic surgery would be as cheap and available as it is today. I remember in college my friend was studying to be a plastic surgeon. I made him promise me a discount operation of my choosing (I should find him again and hold him to that).
Thanks to the economy, we are the first generation to have our children move back in after college. I should say, move in indefinitely. I think any parent who makes their kids move on their own right now is just cruel. The economy is too sketchy to have them on their own and their jobs (if they are lucky enough to have one) are not secure.
And the internet. I'm getting use to the internet and how it can help us share our ideas. So, here it am finishing my first blog. In this blog I will talk about: starting over, aging gracefully, healthy living, travel, raising and re-raising kids, grandkids, dating, and staying young at heart. Come back and share your ideas with me. I don't claim to know it all, but I'd like us all to share in each other's aging process and grow old gracefully, together.
Until then, remember to stay fun loving and fabulous!
